Firefighters battle hundreds of forest fires across Portugal

Authorities have said that over 4,400 firefighters are battling hundreds of forest fires across Portugal, Lancaster Online reports.

The country's National Civil Protection Authority said that nearly 1,500 vehicles and 32 water-dumping aircraft have been deployed at 702 wildfires.

The authority classified eight out-of-control wildfires in the north of the nation as major blazes.
