BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

EEOC seeks input on revised national origin bias guidelines

Reprints

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has voted to release for public input a proposed enforcement guidance addressing national origin discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which would-be the first time since 2002 the guidance has been updated.

The EEOC said in a statement Thursday that the guidance documents express official agency policy and explain how the laws and regulations apply to specific workplace situations.

The agency said since it last updated the guidance, there have been significant legal developments that address national origin discrimination. It said the revised guidance addresses important issues including job segregation and human trafficking.

The EEOC says in fiscal year 2015, about 11% of the 89,385 private-sector charges filed with it alleged national original discrimination. Charges included unlawful failure to hire, termination, language-related issues and harassment.

The 30-day input period ends July 1. Comments can be made to www.regulations.gov in letter, email or memoranda format. Hard copies can also be mailed to Public Input, EEOC, Executive Officer, 131 M St. NE, Washington, DC 20507.
