The Reinsurance Association of America has elected Transatlantic Reinsurance Co. President and CEO Michael Sapnar as its chair for 2016-17.
Mr. Sapnar, who previously was vice chair, joined TransRe in 1995 and rose through the ranks, taking on the posts of president and CEO of Transatlatic Re in 2012, the RAA said Tuesday in a statement.
Also elected to the RAA’s executive leadership team was Kean Driscoll, CEO of Validus Re, a unit of Validus Holdings Ltd. Mr. Driscoll was chosen as vice chair of the RAA.
M. Steven Levy, president of the reinsurance division of Munich Reinsurance America, was elected secretary-treasurer.
In addition, Mr. Sapnar was elected chair of the RAA’s Council of Reinsurers & Brokers. Robert “Trey” Hatcher, executive vice president of Willis Re, a unit of Willis Towers Watson P.L.C., was elected co-chair of the Council of Reinsurers & Brokers.
They were elected April 28 at the RAA’s annual meeting and election.
Reinsurers are pushing to create or expand their specialty and other insurance operations as ongoing competition dampens growth prospects in traditional reinsurance lines.
