Forty-five new insurers and intermediaries were registered in Bermuda during the first half of 2015, nearly on par with the 44 new registrations last year, the Bermuda Monetary Authority said.
The new entities included 10 captive insurers, up from seven in the prior-year period, and four long-term life insurers, the same as last year, the Hamilton, Bermuda-based regulator said Tuesday in a statement.
Six new reinsurers also were created, along with 11 insurance intermediaries, according to the statement.
Bermuda also registered 14 new special purpose insurers handling insurance-linked securities in the first half of 2015, down from 16 formed during the same time period of 2014.
One of those entities was a special purpose insurer established to facilitate catastrophe bond transactions in China.
The Bermuda Monetary Authority registered 36 new insurers during the first six months of 2014, up from 34 during the same period last year.
