BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Tina Mallie named CEO of Spencer Re

Spencer Re has named Tina Mallie as CEO, the Spencer Capital Holdings Ltd. unit announced Tuesday.

Ms. Mallie succeeds Ken Shubin Stein, chairman of Spencer Capital Holdings, who was previously filling the role, a spokeswoman for San Juan, Puerto Rico-based Spencer Re said.

Ms. Mallie, who has served as vice chair of Spencer Capital Holdings since 2013, will focus on expanding Spencer Re, the reinsurer said in a statement. She will be based in New York, the spokeswoman said.

Ms. Mallie joins Spencer Re from Tampa, Florida-based loss adjusting and claims management firm Cunningham Lindsey Group Ltd., where she was U.S. CEO, according to the statement.

Ms. Mallie has also worked in various roles at Zurich Insurance Group Ltd., where she was the first woman to lead the largest business unit for Zurich in North America and was responsible for more than 800 people as president of programs and direct markets for Zurich North America Commercial, according to the statement.

“Tina's reputation and experience in the insurance industry is exceptional, and we are confident that her leadership will spur expansion and growth at Spencer Re,” Mr. Stein said in the statement.

“Having served as vice chairman of the holdings company for several years, I recognize the potential that Spencer has, and know that under Ken's leadership we will continue to grow the company successfully in the Berkshire Hathaway style,” Ms. Mallie said in the statement. “As CEO of Spencer Re, I plan on not only helping to grow the reinsurance business but also fostering the culture of high integrity that drew me to the firm in the first place.”

Ms. Mallie was a Business Insurance Woman to Watch honoree in 2011.
