BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Safety National president to retire, succession plan announced

Jerry Scott, president of Safety National Casualty Corp., will retire this spring, prompting title shifts for several executives, the excess workers compensation insurer said.

Mr. Scott joined St. Louis-based Safety National in 1983 and was appointed president of the insurer in 2010, the company said Monday in a statement. His retirement is effective March 1.

In the statement, Safety National said it experienced a “91% increase in assets, a 99% increase in gross written premium and an 85% increase in surplus” during Mr. Scott's tenure.

As a result of Mr. Scott's departure, Chief Operating Officer Duane Hercules will take over as president. Executive Vice President Steven F. Luebbert will assume the role of COO.

Chief Financial Officer John Csik will retain his title and assume the additional roles of executive vice president and chief risk officer, Safety National said. Gene Maier, senior vice president of workers compensation, will become the company's executive vice president and chief underwriting officer. Seth Smith, vice president of excess workers compensation, will become senior vice president of excess workers compensation.
