BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

OFF BEAT: Comedian Jim Carrey takes workers comp seriously

Reprints

It turns out that actor and funnyman Jim Carrey did indeed pay for workers comp insurance.

But not so funny is that a mistake made by his workers comp insurer led to news stories reporting that Mr. Carrey had failed to purchase coverage for employees at his New York art studio, Church of FFC.

Thereports stated that the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board fined him $72,000, for failing to purchase workers comp coverage for all of 2012, and that when the fine had not been paid, the workers comp board went to court attempting to collect.

A representative for Mr. Carrey had told reporters the issue was merely a clerical error.

The representative was correct. It was a clerical error on the part of insurer Travelers Cos. Inc., according to the workers comp board.
