BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

NASHVILLE, TENN.-BASED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF STRATEGIC SOLUTIONS

Memphis-based Sedgwick Claims Management Services Inc.

PREVIOUS POSITION: Nashville-based president of Excellence in Risk Management L.L.C. and executive vice president of professional services for sister company RPM3 Solutions L.L.C.

CHALLENGES FACING INDUSTRY: I've been a buyer for more than 30 years with claim management services. The insurance industry still remains antiquated when compared to other industries. We have our regulatory challenges ... (but) the industry could benefit from more technology that could lead to higher performance.

INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: The industry is still in consolidation mode and who knows where that will take us. We want to stay ahead of the curve.

BEST THING ABOUT A BAD ECONOMY: It probably motivates us as a firm to be all the better at what we do, including how we price our products. Many public entities are pretty significantly financially stressed and are always looking for inefficiencies. This economic climate forces us to be better.

FIRST MARKET EXPERIENCE: I started in claims management, so I am really coming full circle. My first job was as a claims adjuster with Liberty Mutual (Group). I spent five years there and then I went on to Marsh (Inc.). That was my segue into risk management.

ADVICE: To get a broadly diversified set of experiences in the insurance industry as the best preparation for playing a more significant role in the future. We need smart, emerging leaders.

OUTSIDE THE INDUSTRY, A DREAM JOB: My son is a youth pastor and I am very involved in church leadership as a volunteer. I could see myself in different ministry leadership roles.

HOBBIES: I am a guitarist and a racquetball player. I spend most of my spare time in Christian ministry-related work.

FAVORITE BOOK: The Bible, if you count that, and you should. It's the best-selling book of all time.

FAVORITE MEAL: Steak and lobster.
